Being a whore for eye-candy I am willing to say that cut-scenes are some of my most favorite parts of a game. Many times I will end up watching and re-watching a certain scene from a game. This of course, does not mean that I don't care about gameplay. Gameplay and story are the two major factors on if I am going to buy a game or not. Anyway, here are the top ten cinematics that I watched until my eyes bled.
#5 Halo 343 Guilty Spark
Back when Halo was released in 2001 my dad and I played through the entire campaign co-op. This game was tough. On one part due to the fact that that I was only 7 and had never played a console fps before and also partly due to my dad's slow as snail reflexes.
Anyway, I remember spending a good 15 minutes wandering around the facility after clearing out all of the Covenant. While I had previously battled the undead (Baulder's Gate and The House of the Dead 1&2), the way this whole scene was filmed just added a huge amount of suspense to finally seeing them. Whether you like Halo or not, you must admit that the scene is pretty damn creepy.
#4 Starcraft:Brood War Intro
Like Blizzard or not, you have to respect their cinematic department. The environment and voice acting for the whole scene is astounding. Sure the lip movements for the marine are a bit odd but this game was release in 98. I had been torn between this and another scene from the original Starcraft. In he end I chose this one because the marines didn't look like hicks unlike the original.
With this I must say, this will be the only Blizzard cinematic on this list. It just wouldn't be fair to any of the other developers as Blizzard would dominate this entire list.
#3 Command and Conquer
For all of you too stupid to realize that there were actually Command and Conquer games before Red Alert 2, I will give you the basic rundown. Command and Conquer was originally released by Westwood Studios back in 95 for DOS. The game centered on a plant that had arrived on Earth from a meteor that crashed near the Tiber River in Italy.
This plant had a strange habit of sucking minerals out of the ground and forming large crystals popping out of the dirt. Two major factions duke it over over this new resource. With the Global Defense Initiative fighting to eliminate a terrorist group calling themselves The Brotherhood of Nod.
#2 Diablo 2
Shut up. It was by Blizzard North.
#1 Age of Empires 2
I had been torn between the intro to this or the intro to Age of Empires 1. I ended with this intro because of not only the vast improvement in the animations from the first to this, but the music is my absolute favorite in games. Even though this is the only cinematic in the game, it is pretty damn epic.
Even though this game is a bit historically inaccurate at parts, I still loved playing it. They whole battle between the two kingdoms, even though it lasts for a short time, looks pretty sweet.
Oh ya, turns out the Herbert West files got fucked up. I will try and upload a different story tonight.
